This lovely property has been the loving home of the Porter family since 1994. The couple’s daughters, Katie Yeager and Emily Land, love visiting and often refer to the house as their “mountain retreat” to enjoy with their families. Their summer activities focus on outdoor living, entertaining family and friends on the lawn. The river rock wall was built over a period of three summers, and local castle-builder Herman Beh provided instruction and inspiration for the project. Sue attempts to garden at 8,327 feet, but more often than not, she notes that frost, hail, and legions of deer thwart her very best efforts!
After retiring from their teaching careers in Colorado Springs, Prentis and Sue worked for a number of years at international schools, and the interior decor of the home reflects their travels abroad. In the upstairs library, guests can see a framed picture of the Colorado Millennium Holiday Tree, painted by Kathy W. Hill. The 65′ 75-year-old Colorado Blue Spruce was a gift from the Pikes Peak Ranger District of the Pike National Forest in Woodland Park and graced the lawn of the U.S. Capitol in 2000. The painting was a gift to Prentis, who was serving as the Mayor of Woodland Park at that time.
Their home was featured on the very first Holiday Home Tour in 1999, and local floral designer, Jan Woodward, lent her talents for the design that year as well! Please enjoy this year’s rendition of their Holiday Home.
